Try to avoid cluttered spaces. Clear the floor
of obstacles that you could trip over or land
on during a fall, and don’t overload your space
with furniture.
Choose carpet
over bare floors
Apply foam padding to sharp corners of tables and bathroom vanities, and avoid buying glass tables.
Ensure that heavy items on shelves or in cabinets are secured to prevent them from falling on you
if you bump into them.
Use mounting kits to anchor large furniture,
such as dressers and bookshelves, to the wall.
Practice furniture safety
Where possible, limit the use of sharp objects. Consider replacing razor blades with electric razors, using a food processor instead of knives, and ensuring that any glass cookware is made
of shatterproof glass.
Avoid sharp objects
When cooking, use the back burners to reduce your chances of spilling a boiling pot, and turn
pot handles toward the back of the stove.
Avoid using candles, or consider battery-powered “flameless” candles. If you have a fireplace, avoid using it when you're alone, and make sure it’s fitted with a sturdy, stable screen.
Use caution around open flames
Avoid using electric appliances near water sources. Make sure appliances such as an air fryer, electric kettle, and stove have an automatic shutoff feature, and use it.
Use appliances with auto shutoff
Pick wall-to-wall carpeting over hard flooring such as tile or wood.
Avoid throw rugs. While they can be a nice aesthetic choice, they pose a tripping and slipping hazard.
